Tahini Swirl Cocoa Brownies

Tahini Swirl Cocoa Brownies Recipe // Dula Notes

Before we talk brownies, I had a cronut, you guys! I thought it might be too rich, but it was surprisingly light with beautiful, fluffy layers. It was coated in sugar just incredible. In my pursuit of the cronut, I totally slipped on the icy sidewalk in front of the bakery. Embarrassing! I’m completely fine, though. I have a tiny bruise on my bum where I fell, but that’s all. Then I had a delicious cronut in my hands, so it was worth it. So, brownies! These might sound odd, but I think you’re going to like them. First of all,… Continue reading

Heart-Shaped Salted Molten Chocolate Cakes

Heart-Shaped Salted Molten Chocolate Cakes

Maybe I’ve been watching too much of The Taste, but I feel like Anthony Bourdain would tell me these molten chocolate cakes are so 2004. And they kind of are, but who cares? They’re delicious. My valentine was temporarily put on a big project at work with some late nights and my job has been crazy busy, so Valentine’s Day 2014 was me picking up an aged ribeye for sharing and making a side of creamy polenta topped with a quick sauté of the shiitake mushrooms and broccoli I purchased earlier in the week with no particular plan in mind. I made… Continue reading

Bourbon Cinnamon Tiramisu

Cinnamon Bourbon Tiramisu Recipe // Dula Notes

It’s really hard to believe that Christmas is next week already. We had our first big snowfall over the weekend and decided to act snowed in. We had a fire going in the fireplace, watched movies, and wrapped Christmas presents. Marc watched Fargo and Say Anything for the first time and one day I’m going to insist he watches The Goonies and The Princess Bride. I only did a few necessities on my to-do list. I washed my hair, but did nothing else to it all weekend. At one point Marc said my hair was “kind of crazy,” dashing my hopes… Continue reading

Creamy Vegan Neapolitan Popsicles

Creamy Vegan Neopolitan Popsicles // Dula Notes

Get excited! It’s POPSICLE WEEK. If you have no clue what I’m talking about, Billy is an evil genius and soon will be your BFF. He’s brought together 26 food bloggers to make popsicles this week and you better believe it’s going to be good. To be honest, I almost didn’t join the party. These are my very first pops and I’m in a group of esteemed popsicle makers like Cindy, Megan, Billy and Tracy. Then I realized I needed a reason to buy the popsicle mold that all of the cool kids have. I knew I wanted my first pops to have layers because… Continue reading

Dark Chocolate Rocky Road Cookies

Rocky Road Cookies Recipe // Dula Notes

These are the cookies I made for the Bake for Their Sake auction and you just need to make them. Imagine a soft and chewy chocolate cookie with salty chopped nuts and toasted mini marshmallows on top. C’mon, right? I can’t believe it, but a man I’ve never met bought these cookies for $155. That money was then donated to Echoing Good. I was speechless and thrilled. I made a big batch of these guys and the majority went to the generous donor, but I also mailed some to a few good friends for their love and support. These cookies… Continue reading

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Recipe // Dula Notes

I am so happy that my plan to make ice cream coincided with our first 70 degree day. It was just meant to be. Of course I would have made it anyway, but I like that it turned out that way. Saturday was gorgeous and sunny. It ended up being a fine day to purchase a car, too. We finally feel like we’re getting good at buying a car. I really dislike the process. Especially the part where they know the lowest price they can offer, but you need to be a stern and confident and grown-up to get yourself… Continue reading

Raw Vegan Chocolate Pudding

It is incredible what a day off can do for you. My sister-in-law and I took Monday off and spent all day at a fancy mall. We treated ourselves to the sale sections at Crate & Barrel, Madewell and Anthropologie. I found 3 super discounted sets of my flatware at C & B! At Madewell, a stylish chap named Jeremiah took my armful of sale rack clothing and styled them into cute outfits in the dressing room. I asked if he was ready for me and he asked if I was ready for him! He added some bright jewelry and… Continue reading

Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Bake-Off

Old-Fashioned Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe // Dula Notes

I have so much to tell you guys about today! First, today marks 4 years of Dula Notes. Whoa. I can’t believe I picked St. Patrick’s Day 4 years ago to start this blog, but that’s just the way it happened. I appreciate you all so much and thank you for visiting, your comments, your support, everything. Next, obviously, things are different around here. Thanks to my friend and graphic designer Rachelle and my web developer husband, there’s a shiny new Dula Notes. We didn’t plan on having the redesign done on my blog’s 4th anniversary, but I like it. Here’s… Continue reading

Quick Raw Brownies

I went to the grocery store this morning, but this time it was a little different. Marc is heading to SXSW for work on Thursday and I was shopping for anything my heart desired. He will no doubt eat his own body weight in food truck burritos and have a fantastic time in Austin. Meanwhile, I will be eating arugula salads, kale, soft-poached eggs, avocados smashed on toast, pancakes for one, a hunk of Humboldt Fog cheese and roasted sweet potatoes on everything. I’ll miss him terribly, but I’m stoked about the lady dinners I’ll eat in my pj’s while… Continue reading

Peppermint Bark Drizzled Popcorn

Peppermint Bark Drizzled Popcorn Recipe // Dula Notes

As Christmas approaches, I’m getting anxious and excited to see my family and friends. The texts, e-mails and Facebook messages to and from is starting. We’re arranging happy reunions to fit into everyone’s schedule while we’re all in the same city. It’s chaos, but the best kind.  Some meetups will inevitably take place where we can grab a drink, but some will be in a home, with potluck possibilities. This popcorn is just the treat for such a gathering. It is incredibly fun to make and I can see this being a great project for a group when it’s time… Continue reading
