Vegan Sea Salt Caramel Coffee Popsicles

Vegan Sea Salt Caramel Coffee Popsicles // @nicoledula #popsicleweek

It’s #popsicleweek, are you excited?!? If not, I’m pretty sure I’m excited enough for the both of us. This is the 4th year that Billy has gathered a bunch of bloggers to create magical frozen treats. Get your popsicle mold ready because you’re going to be craving pops like crazy after the week is through. My early favorite pops are these Cherry Vanilla Pie Pops made with a mochi crust!! I always make vegan pops, I don’t know why. Is there a Buzzfeed quiz to tell me? These pops are inspired by the coffee sea salt caramel ice cream I love… Continue reading

Chai Spice Carrot Cake

Chai Spice Carrot Cake Recipe // @nicoledula

First, thank you so much for all of the love on FB, Instagram, and here on the blog regarding the baby news! Thank you, thank you! I’ve been really fortunate and haven’t been sick at all. I have great energy in the morning and have kept up my boxing/strength training classes. At night I’m pretty much useless, but I’ve learned to be really productive in the morning before work. My food aversions are few. Surprisingly I have more of an aversion to actual cooking than to specific foods and when I do make something, I hardly want to eat it.… Continue reading

No-Bake Chocolate Cream Pie with Toasted Meringue

No-Bake Chocolate Cream Pie with Toasted Meringue Recipe // @nicoledula

I’ve had this pie bookmarked from Bon Appétit since I first laid heart-eyes on it. It’s a rich chocolate pudding pie in a chocolate cookie crust with a torched meringue topping. Can you even? Marc was out of town for work the week of his birthday, so I schemed to make this for his return. He loves chocolate pudding and his birthday was just the excuse I needed to get out the blow torch. By complete stroke of luck, it also happens to be Pi Day and here I have one of the prettiest pies to come out of my… Continue reading

Grapefruit Blueberry Scones

Grapefruit Blueberry Scones Recipe // @nicoledula

Important news, I pre-ordered my paczki for Feb. 9! I can’t risk not getting the lime-curd cream filled paczki with the raspberry glaze I fell in love with last year. Paczki eating is a pretty big deal around here. I mean, nobody wants the sad ones from the grocery store, right? Also, now that it’s January, I’m craving scones. It happens to me every January. I see all of the pretty winter citrus and right after eating my weight in drippy, pink, cara cara oranges, I start thinking about citrus scones. That tang from the citrus and buttermilk magically balances… Continue reading

Vegan Cashew Milk Hot Chocolate

Vegan Cashew Milk Hot Chocolate Recipe // @nicoledula

In 2015, I made an effort to try new brunch spots in and around Detroit. We did pretty well. One of our favorite places for dinner, Selden Standard, has a simple brunch menu, always choosing quality over quantity. I had hash while Marc had steak and eggs. We also split a side of tater tots and a cinnamon roll with mascarpone icing. It was my birthday after all. They also offer their own housemade cashew milk and as much as I wanted a glass, I felt I was at my threshold for ordering extras. I still wonder how it tastes,… Continue reading

German Christmas Stollen 2015

German Christmas Stollen 2015 Recipe // @nicoledula

This is the 7th (!!) year I’ve made stollen and it’s the 4th year I’ve made a quadruple batch with my friend, Nancy. We call it the stollen workshop and this year I went over to her place after work on Friday, picked up pizzas and we set out our equipment and did some pre-measuring. Marc and I went back on Saturday afternoon after our morning kickboxing class and the last loaf was out of the oven around 6:30 pm. We watched holiday movies while we waited for the last loaves to cool. My Oma used to bring foil-wrapped loaves of stollen… Continue reading

Poached Cardamom Pears with Mascarpone + Honey

Poached Cardamom Pears with Mascarpone + Honey Recipe // @nicoledula

I have had this dessert on my mind since summer. Ever since I had that perfect wine-poached peach with whipped mascarpone at 9 Bean Rows in Traverse City. Such a simple dessert, but completely delicious. I put a winter spin on that concept and poached pears with fragrant holiday spices. I used a dry Michigan Gewurztrtraminer that we bought during the trip for the poaching liquid, too. Poached fruit is so elegant, but really easy to make and great for entertaining because it can be made well in advance. I’m going to have to throw a party, just so I can serve… Continue reading

Cheesecake with Pomegranate-Vanilla Bean Cranberry Sauce

I’ve tried to find out who started making this cheesecake in Marc’s family and I think I’ve traced it back to Marc’s (honorary) Aunt Ruthie, his grandma’s good friend. I wish I knew the cookbook or magazine it was clipped from, but we may never know. Marc’s grandma and mom have made this cheesecake for years and it’s been a staple at many family gatherings throughout our 15 years together. Every time I see it, I get excited because it’s creamy and wonderful and has lots of good memories attached to it. If you can believe it, I’ve never made… Continue reading

Plum + Apricot Summer Tiramisu

Plum + Apricot Summer Tiramisu Recipe // @nicoledula

My retired neighbor that lives behind us has started throwing buckets of bird seed on the ground and in the middle of her backyard. I’ve never seen this approach to feeding birds before. I get a view into her retired days through my kitchen window because I’m often in the kitchen. Now a few mornings a week, there are more black birds than I can count ascending on our neighborhood, swooping in and out in coordinated hoards. It’s like a Hitchcock film or Game of Thrones, depending on how far back you like to take your references. My sister-in-law is frightened… Continue reading
