Greek Chicken Wraps

Greek Chicken Pita Wraps Recipe // @nicoledula

I made these Greek Chicken Wraps for Collaboreat and now I have the recipe here for you. I’m so pleased with how they turned out and then Melissa made them and sent me the sweetest Instagram message to say her family loved them. How lovely is that? Here’s the story behind this recipe and why it’s a big part of my first memories of Detroit. To someone who isn’t from metro Detroit, Greek Chicken Wraps might seem like a strange meal to associate with the area. Detroit’s diverse melting pot of cultures and love of greasy spoons has filled the area with diners featuring menus with… Continue reading

Homemade Pita Bread

Homemade Pita Bread Recipe // @nicoledula

I know homemade pita sounds intimidating, but this dough is so friendly. Really! The satisfaction of pulling that first pita out of the skillet all warm and golden, is one of life’s simple pleasures. You can let them puff up in the skillet and stay pita-like or you can burst the bubbles that form while it’s sizzling to create a more naan-like wrap for sandwiches, like I did here. You can also serve naan with butter chicken or, you know, let a pat of butter melt on the top, sprinkle it with some salt, roll it up and eat it over the… Continue reading

Grilled Baba Ghanoush

Grilled Baba Ghanoush Recipe // Dula Notes

Sometimes you want to change up your dip game and this easy baba ghanoush is a nice change of pace. It has the same flavors as you find in hummus, but it’s lighter from the use of eggplant instead of chickpeas. You can dip your favorite vegetables and crackers in it or you can spread it on lavash and top with raw or roasted veggies for a veggie wrap. It makes a party-size amount, which is great if you’re having people over or plan on using it for lunches for the week. Feel free to cut the recipe is half… Continue reading

Coconut Milk Grilled Pineapple

Coconut Milk Grilled Pineapple Recipe // Dula Notes

As if hearing Prince’s, “I Want To Be Your Lover” TWICE wasn’t reason enough to call it a great weekend, the rest of it was pretty spectacular, too. We packed so much good stuff into the long 4th of July weekend. Some highlights include: barbecues, Dutch bakery cronuts, shrimp tacos, bocce ball, cool mornings on my parents’ deck, fireworks, ice cream, loads of sunshine and long walks. We almost made this grilled pineapple over the weekend, but we just couldn’t do it all. Don’t worry, though, I’ll still make this all summer long. It’s hard to improve upon ripe fresh… Continue reading

CSA 2014: Week 3 + Grilled Caesar Salad

CSA 2014: Week 3 + Grilled Caesar Salad Recipe

Ah, summer! I can’t get enough strawberries right now and the other night I had some with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. If I’m not making the ice cream myself, I recently discovered Alden’s organic vanilla ice cream at Whole Foods and it’s my favorite. If it goes on sale, I just have to buy it. Some store-bought vanilla ice creams are too sweet for me and Alden’s is pretty perfect. Just in case you were looking for a vanilla ice cream to try. This week we received jericho romaine lettuce, russian kale, butter lettuce, asparagus, garlic scapes, strawberries and red baron spring… Continue reading

North Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwiches

North Carolina Pulled Pork Recipe // Dula Notes

Here is the lady-like pulled pork sandwich I assembled for myself. Notice the focus on the delicious carb-tastic bun and a good amount of quick-pickles to balance out the rich pulled pork. Here is Marc’s sandwich, void of all vegetables and all about the pulled pork. I should have known right away to ask him to be my food stylist on this one. The man knows how to make a sandwich. This is the pulled pork we made for our Memorial Day barbecue and then we made it again while entertaining friends the next weekend. Everyone loved it. It’s smoky,… Continue reading

Ramp Compound Butter

Ramp Compound Butter Recipe // Dula Notes

Last year I couldn’t find ramps anywhere, but this year my Whole Foods has a generous section of midwest-grown organic ramps. I bought 2 bunches last week and made my favorite pasta with ramps and then I went back for 5 more bunches. I’m pretty greedy. When using ramps, I aim for recipes that will really showcases the distinctive mild garlic flavor that makes everyone crazy for ramps. And I need the recipe to use both the bulbs and greens because I’m not throwing half of it away. No way. Now that the weather has warmed up, we’re grilling every chance we… Continue reading

Grilled Peaches with Sea Salt Bourbon Caramel

Grilled Peaches with Sea Salt Bourbon Caramel

I’m back from a fantastic weekend celebrating the upcoming marriage of one of the best gals I know. I’m a bit sore, sleep-deprived and my voice is at half-capacity, but it was all worth it. We spent 3 amazing days on Mackinac Island in northern Michigan surrounded by gorgeous views of Lake Huron with perfect weather. I hope to get together a post of my favorite pictures, but if you can’t wait another minute, head over to my Instagram page for a preview. Now let’s talk about this perfect summer dessert. I love a drippy ripe peach all on… Continue reading

Lemon Oregano Compound Butter

Lemon Oregano Compound Butter Recipe // Dula Notes

How was your weekend? Michigan was a bit chilly, but the perfect temperature for grilling outside and warm enough to keep the front door open during the day. At our family barbecue on Sunday, we all lingered on our front porch while Pandora provided the tunes. My parents stayed over Saturday and Sunday night and it was very nice to spend time with them. They kindly offered to help set the table and wipe down the porch railing so everyone had a clean spot to sit. The Rum Horchata Cocktail was a huge hit! We made 40 jalapeño poppers and thought we had overdone… Continue reading

Grilled Crispy Kale

Grilled Crispy Kale Recipe // Dula Notes

Summer is winding down and as usual, I am hanging onto it with all of my might. I love fall, but I am choosing to ignore the signs of next season until I’m ready to say goodbye. This summer has just been so good to me. The warm weather and the fact that my kitchen counter is lined with peaches and tomatoes is helping with my child-like pursuit. Emboldened, I walked right past the pumpkins at a farm stand to pick a perfectly sweet watermelon for Labor Day. Yesterday, I quickly looked away when I was greeted with a large… Continue reading
