Fall is here, but our box is still in-between seasons with juicy heirloom tomatoes and the sweetest muskmelon I’ve ever tasted. On the fall side, dragon carrots that are almost burgundy on the outside and brilliant orange on the inside were a wonderful surprise. They are really pretty shaved into a simple salad.
This week we received broccoli, leeks, dragon carrots, lettuce, muskmelon, heirloom tomatoes, bell pepper, garlic and parsley.
I used the 3 huge heirloom tomatoes to make an heirloom tomato pizza inspired by Rebecca. I diced up two of the tomatoes and cooked them with garlic, olive oil with a hit of chopped oregano at the end for a quick pizza sauce. The final tomato was sliced thinly and placed over fresh mozzarella slices on top of the pizza.
I should probably call the above soup, CSA Soup, because it was made with a bunch of beautiful CSA vegetables plus smoked paprika and a bit of cayenne. The leeks, carrots, and broccoli went in the soup plus some potatoes from a few weeks ago. You also get the reflection of our George Nelson bubble lamp in the soup, ha. Happy Thursday, friends.
