We have a pumpkin! It’s so pretty, I just want to put it on our porch as decoration, but I have plans for that guy. Hopefully the recipe will be a winner and it will up on the blog soon. Sorry to be such a tease.
This week we received pie pumpkin, cabbage, broccoli, heirloom tomato, assorted apples, swiss chard, onions, garlic, shallots and bell pepper.
When I collected all of the apples out of the box, together they were beautiful with their different sizes and colors. These went into smoothies because I currently have a large paper bag full of apples. We picked some from a wild tree at work and then a friend of ours has an apple tree at their new home. After last year’s terrible fruit season, it’s great to see apples everywhere!
I’m convinced that this Hot and Sour Soup with Cabbage and Rice is the best way to use a big head of cabbage. It has a bit of spice from the peppers, a little sour from the lime juice and a complex umami flavor from the mushrooms and soy sauce. The longer the soup cooks, the silkier the cabbage gets. It’s really good, you guys.
