Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Bake-Off

I have so much to tell you guys about today! First, today marks 4 years of Dula Notes. Whoa. I can’t believe I picked St. Patrick’s Day 4 years ago to start this blog, but that’s just the way it happened. I appreciate you all so much and thank you for visiting, your comments, your support, everything.

Next, obviously, things are different around here. Thanks to my friend and graphic designer Rachelle and my web developer husband, there’s a shiny new Dula Notes. We didn’t plan on having the redesign done on my blog’s 4th anniversary, but I like it.

Here’s what’s new!

  • There’s new navigation at the top to find featured post
  • Try out the new recipe index to find recipes by category, season or type
  • Recipes will now have a print button!
  • Share posts from the pretty peach ribbon on the left
  • Connect with me on Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram etc. on the right
  • You’ll notice little illustrated badges on each recipe letting you know if they are vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, quick and which season they fall into
  • The 404 redirect page is one of my favorite things. I don’t want you to end up there, but the illustration is super cute. Here’s a gibberish url if you want to see!
  • I finally have a Facebook page! Like it, if you want!

I hope you like it as much as we do!

It’s ok if you read the above paragraphs as “cookies, cookies, cookies” in your head. It’s ok. I know it’s hard to focus with melty chocolate chip cookies in your face. I haven’t changed to a restricted diet, but I know many people have by choice or by necessity. I was interested in making a gluten-free chocolate chip cookie and I found two different recipes from trusted bloggers. I couldn’t decide which to try first and in the end made them both, side by side. I was incredibly impressed with both recipes. In fact, I feel like they should always be made together. Cookie cousins that just go together.

The texture is a touch different from your typical chocolate chip cookie, but it’s difficult to detect that they are gluten-free. I recommend eating the soft, old-fashioned type cookie first and then following it up with the chewy, melty, king-sized cookie. No doubt, I will be making them both, again. I hoped to crown a winner, but they are both excellent. Try a small batch of each and see if you can decide. If not, just sit back and enjoy one after the other like me.

    • Thanks for your lovely comment, Jacqui! I love that you used the word happy to describe the new design 🙂

  2. LOVE! the site is so pretty and perfect for you! so, lovely! and, I’ll take as many chocolate chip cookie recipe variations as I can! I’m a sucker for the look of the old-fashioned!

    • Thanks, Cindy! The old-fashioned one is such a looker! The king-sized is kind of sticky, chewy and buttery in all of the best ways. I couldn’t decide on a favorite!

  3. This website is just as pretty as YOU 🙂 Congratulations on 4 years! I always love seeing what new delicious meal you’ve made…and what new delicious meal I need to recreate 😉

  4. Your new design is beautiful, Nicole! It suits you. Love seeing your take on my cookies, and in a bake-off, no less! I’m going to have to try toasting my almond meal.

    • Thanks so much, Kathryne! I LOVED your cookies. It’s hard to believe they have no eggs and look just like a classic chocolate chip cookie! It was probably the tamest bake-off ever because I was so impressed with both recipes 🙂 Thanks for sharing your recipe!

    • Thank you, Katherine!! I wanted to bring something special to the party and chocolate chip cookies (with a spin) seemed like the right thing to do 🙂
