Introducing Romy Lane

Romy Lane // @nicoledula

She’s here! On August 5th, Romy Lane was born and I can’t believe how crazy giving birth is and how crazy it is that she’s ours. We call her tiny, but mighty. She was 6 lbs 14 oz at birth, but she holds her head up and when you try to burp her, she pushes her whole body to get back to the feeding position. Her appetite is insatiable. My life is diapers, breastfeeding, saving links on Facebook that I’ll probably never read and streaming 16 and Pregnant. I also sing “Almost Paradise” to Romy when we watch Bachelor in Paradise and I think she loves it.

I knew motherhood would be challenging and it would overwhelm me with love and joy, but I’ve learned I couldn’t grasp it fully until it happened to me. Just this morning I was breastfeeding Romy on the couch and singing, “I Will” by the Beatles to her, while crying and unable to get a tissue as tears rolled down my cheeks and my nose ran. That’s pretty much motherhood for me in a nutshell. Stuck on the couch breastfeeding and unable to reach anything most of the day, but too much in love to care.

Here are a few of my favorite Romy photos so far.

  1. I have always hated when people say, you won’t understand until you experience it, and I was so sure that wouldn’t be true for me …. Yeah I was wrong. Having a baby humbled me and shocked me and still surprises me allllll the time. I said to Tim today, when do you stop feeling surprised your kid is your kid!? Because I still look at Rocco and am stunned.

    • Shanna – I really thought I was prepared, but it truly is shocking and surprising and humbling, as you eloquently put it. Marc and I frequently take a moment to say to each other, “Can you believe we have a baby?” or “Can you believe she’s ours?”

  2. She is so beautiful, Nicole. And I absolutely love her name! Man, motherhood is tough! Esp. those first few weeks / months. But you have a great attitude! And I still can’t believe my kids are really mine.

  3. Her eyes are so bright! Little beauty. Motherhood/parenting is such a wonderful, messy, weird, crazy intense thing, as I’m sure you have quickly found out! Congratulations 100x over!

Side note: my entire maternity leave was basically spent nursing on the couch watching 16 and Pregnant and/or Gilmore Girls. I FEEL YA GIRL. I also had a lot of avocado toast for lunch haha.

    • YES! I’m glad to have a maternity leave twin, ha! I’ve moved onto Teen Mom 2 and I think Romy is starting to recognize the guitar riff in between segments, oops 🙂 SO MUCH TOAST.

  4. I’m late to comment on this post but I’m so thrilled for you all Nicole! She is just beautiful and you are and will continue to be an amazing Mom! Love to all of you! xoxo
