Cobs of slightly charred corn with a slathering of this and a dusting of that, have been on my must-try list for a while now.  Right now I am picturing beautiful Mexican street corn with lime wedges on the side. Last Tuesday I started to tell you about my whirlwind of a 4th of July. It was busy, but packed with the best kind of summer fun. My brother and sister-in-law drove to our house on the 3rd and we started the holiday with a Banh Mi party. I had the day off and cut carrots and cucumbers into matchsticks and picked cilantro leaves from their stems. I sliced fresh baguette into sandwich-sized portions. Grilled Corn Salad

I first discovered this grilled corn salad last labor day and it just tastes like summer. The corn is nutty from the grill, the fresh vegetables are crisp and the easy lime dressing adds a tangy sweetness. Now that summer is here and the barbecue is getting fired up regularly, I’ve made this twice already. On Easter we decided to go low-key and have a nice grilled meal for the two of us. The unpredictable Michigan weather was kind to us and cooperated with a slightly cool, but sunny Sunday afternoon. We sat on our porch and enjoyed some cocktails while we waited for the lamb to cook. It was a bit of heaven on earth. The Perfect Weeknight Meal

We had a pricey post-anniversary celebration at Ocean Prime the other night and after we paid the bill, we decided to go to the freezer and pantry for the rest of the week. The food was fresh and good, the service was quite fantastic, but I thought it was a bit overpriced for what we had. Each entree comes with a vegetable, but our server explained it was more of “an extension of the garnish” than an actual side. Sigh.
