CSA 2014: Week 13

CSA 2014: Week 13 // www.dulanotes.com @nicoledula

I’m back from Traverse City! Maybe you didn’t know I had gone, but I Instagrammed many of my adventures. I’m putting the finishing touches on my vacation post because phew, it’s a long one with lots of photos, but I think you’re going to like it.

While we were away I missed my colorful CSA! We did have some delicious, local produce at almost every restaurant we visited, though, which was lovely. Many of those restaurants pushed their heirloom tomato dishes because their time is almost up. I hoped we still had some tomatoes coming in our CSA and we did! For our first dinner back at home I picked up some burrata and ciabatta and sliced those pretty tomatoes. Best dinner ever.

I’m also really excited about having organic, non-GMO corn. As I shucked the corn to reveal tiny sweet kernels, I knew it was going to be good. We picked up some beautiful grass-fed steaks at our local butcher and Marc grilled them to perfection and grilled the corn, too. I’m going to miss summer!  The chard has been going into smoothies this week, the lettuce will become an easy salad and I’m thinking of pesto for the flat-leaf parsley. I have all sorts of recipe ideas floating around in my head, so we’ll see what comes this weekend!

This week we received lettuce, sweet corn, new potatoes, heirloom tomatoes, swiss chard, onions, flat-leaf parsley and leek.

  1. I never got a CSA because I wasn’t sure I would be able to use up all the food by myself, but that’s what I love about summer — being able to go to the farmer’s markets and picking up fresh vegetables and fruits. It really makes such a different in the quality and taste of the food.

I would like to know how the parsley pesto goes, it sounds interesting!

    • I know what you mean, Karishma. Even a single share gives you quite a bit and I have to stay on top of it to use it all, but you’re right, the farmers market is great for picking up just what you need! I’ll keep you in the loop on the pesto 🙂

    • The corn from our CSA is really, really good! And we just received 6 more ears 🙂 Yes, now we can begin cozy fall things!
