Last weekend was a busy one, but full of so many good things. On Friday night I basically had chocolate for dinner at the new Bon Bon Bon shop in Detroit, on Saturday Megan and I had a pierogi picnic and on Sunday I had brunch with my sister-in-law Meg and then we made floral crowns. The weekend of weekends!
Martha DeFlorio is a floral designer who owns Made Floral and she makes the dreamiest floral arrangements. We met for brunch a few months ago over mutual admiration of our Instagram feeds. Martha also hosts different floral workshops all over metro Detroit. When I saw this Frida Kahlo-inspired floral crown workshop, I had to go. Who doesn’t love the style of whip-smart and talented Friday Kahlo? It took no convincing at all to get Meg on board.
Martha explained that you have to use hearty flowers in a floral crown because there’s some taping and wiring that needs to be done and you want your flowers to survive the process. She chose flowers in bold colors like Frida wore in her hair. I opted for a headband style with an asymmetrical look.
We snacked on dried apples, spiced pecans, cheese and delicious crackers sprinkled with magic? Probably parmesan.
We made quite a mess, but the 5 of us had the best girly time and I was impressed with the results. Each crown was unique and I was ready to take the, “What does your floral crown say about you?” Buzzfeed quiz. Who got stubborn perfectionist? Anyone?
I’m really in love with this photo of my sister-in-law. She’s always beautiful, but in this photo she’s so ethereal in that natural light.
And here’s my floral crown, which is apparently reversible. I definitely felt very “Frida”. Thanks for everything, Martha!
You & Megan; simply adorbs! Did Meg make one for Molly?
Thanks, Nancy! We only made one in the session, but Meg plans to make one for Molly soon.
I love these! Bring me next time! I like flowers.
I honestly was thinking about you on my drive over to the workshop! Next time for sure 🙂
