I have had this dessert on my mind since summer. Ever since I had that perfect wine-poached peach with whipped mascarpone at 9 Bean Rows in Traverse City. Such a simple dessert, but completely delicious. I put a winter spin on that concept and poached pears with fragrant holiday spices. I used a dry Michigan Gewurztrtraminer that we bought during the trip for the poaching liquid, too.
Poached fruit is so elegant, but really easy to make and great for entertaining because it can be made well in advance. I’m going to have to throw a party, just so I can serve these pretty pears. And while these pears poach away, your whole house will smell like cardamom and cinnamon.
I’m always looking for more ways to incorporate pears into desserts and am loving this!
Thanks, Sues! I think you’ll love it!
Got pears in our green box this week, I think this is just the ticket! Happy Decembering, Nicole! <3
Oh yay! I hope you love it!
Could I replace the wine with water and yield similar results?
I’ve never tried it before, but maybe replace the wine with more pear juice or a mixture of pear juice and water to ensure the poaching liquid is flavorful and not too watered down. Good luck!
